Speaker 1:

Welcome back to another episode of the Putty Report. We are continuing the conversation about Convert Kids State of the Creator Economy Report for 2023. And the thing that I wanted to dive into next is where creators see the best audience engagement, because I know that this audience is always talking about. I want to grow my audience, I want to have an engaged audience. What does that look like? And so one of the things that I talked about is connecting with your audience has two main elements what you share and how you share it, and creators pay attention to which channels have the largest or highest audience engagement. But they're also willing to experiment with new types of content to keep it fresh, and I love how they have, like these, testimonials sprinkled throughout the entire report.

Speaker 1:

And this says Tiago Forte. He's the founder of Forte Labs. He says our email subscribers are the only people who I consider dedicated followers. Social media is great, but it's so easy to follow someone that connection isn't particularly strong. For that reason, I've always considered email central to our business and will continue to do so. I could not agree more, tiago, like this is so important, and I think that this is one of those things that I've said from the beginning like it's great to have social following and to really have this large audience, but at the end of the day, my email list is the thing that I use to measure how is my audience doing? Because those are the people that I can actually connect with. I could send them an email, say, hit reply and let me know, and people actually do it and they talk to me through the emails and they buy from me through emails and we have this solid relationship that way where I feel like social media is pretty fickle.

Speaker 1:

But I will say this let's dive into the top creative outputs that ConvertKit said everyone answered for their 2022 experience, so this really surprised me. This actually shocked me a little bit. To say, the top creative output of the entire survey was articles, blog posts or books. I was like, wow, that's really, really like I wouldn't have thought blogs and written content was at the very top, but it was quickly followed by social media posts and short form videos and then email newsletters, like those are kind of tied for second and third. But I thought that was so interesting because I wouldn't have thought articles and blog posts and books were at the very top. But if we think about the internet and, historically, what's been around the longest? Articles, blog posts and books have been around the longest, so that makes sense that it's still kind of raining at the top, but quickly followed by short form videos and email newsletters.

Speaker 1:

So that was a very interesting again, I want you to go download this so you can look at all the charts that they have in here, but one of the things, as they said, is, the most popular platform for marketing content is drumroll, please, instagram. I loved seeing this because I was like, oh well, that's where I market my content and that's where I like to hang out online. And you would probably think, well, isn't it TikTok? Everyone talked about TikTok all of 2022 and 2021 and it's just been around forever. It's like number six, I think, in the list, and so I think that it maybe it comes down to the age of creators. That took the survey, but it says more than 55% of creators use Instagram to market their content. The next one is their email newsletter, followed by Facebook, blog post and YouTube. So yeah, tiktok was number six.

Speaker 1:

I just thought this was really interesting, so I want you to go and dive into this. There's actually some tips in here that I didn't see before on how you can use social media and email marketing together. Of course, convertkit is gonna highlight email marketing third email service provider but it's what I love about them is you can get all these cool ideas. Like it says, five ways to take control of your marketing in an algorithm driven world, and it's an article all about social media and using email together. So go download the state of the creator economy report. It's gonna be linked in the show notes for today, but that's all I have for you. So, as always, remember, keep it fresh, keep it fun and just keep going.
