Welcome back to another episode of the Putty Report. So I wanted to share something fun with you because I realized something the other day. I did an affiliate launch recently and I was like, okay, my goal for this launch is to make enough money to cover all of my operating expenses for the next year. Now I know you're like wait, what? What are you talking about? So when I look at goals and I look at how I'm gonna set goals, I have to really kinda look at my expectations and measure, well, what is the possibility that that is actually going to happen? So let me give you an example. I have an email list around 2,500 and I told you yesterday I'm looking to grow that and expand it. And if I look at, okay, if I have X amount of people on my email list, then I could have X amount of clicks, x amount of opens, x amount of conversions, and you can actually do the math and see, based on the expected price point of this product or this or that. Then I can see exactly how much money I'm gonna make. And so for this launch specifically, I said you know what, it would be awesome if I could cover all of my expenses for the next year and anything else above and beyond. That is fantastic, right. So it's like that is the minimal goal that I wanted to achieve and I did, which is incredible.
Speaker 0:But you know, I'm like super excited, super stoked about that, and when I look at beginner content creators, I started thinking this should be your first goal, because one of the things like if you're just getting into this, like your expenses can really add up right, like if you are looking at, let's just say, you're a podcaster and you wanna use Descript, you wanna use Buzzsprout and you wanna have Canva to help you do all your social media stuff and, let's say, one or two other tools to help you. If you're doing, and then you have a website, let's say that, okay, that's pretty standard. I don't wanna say that's like the easiest way to get started, cause it's not. I would say that's like medium, right, it's not super advanced, but it's not bare bones, beginner. Then you're gonna have to pay for Buzzsprout, you're gonna have to pay for Descript, you're gonna have to pay for Canva, you're gonna have to pay for website hosting and maybe a theme or maybe just a simple website that can easily add up to a few hundred dollars.
Speaker 0:And so when you're creating your content, all of a sudden you're like, okay, I have to make this content make money. And you start feeling pressure, you start feeling stressed. You're like I wanted to do this for fun, and now it's work, cause I have to do it. Plus, I have to figure out how to make money. And I'm not making any money.
Speaker 0:And then your business is like, okay, should I just keep going? Like, do I need to keep doing this? All of a sudden, it's expensive, like why is it several hundred dollars to do this? And I'm not making any money at all. I've been there. I've been there.
Speaker 0:This is why I'm sharing this with you and why I wanted to share that the goal of this previous launch was to make enough money just to cover all of my expenses for the next year. So it's not even a thought. So I'm already at baseline of anything that I make From now on. Now I'll still have expenses, right. I'll still have other things that I wanna invest in, that I want to try, things that I want to, you know, reinvest into my business, but I have all of my operating expenses covered.
Speaker 0:So if I don't do anything else over the next year, I can keep creating my content without fear of like oh my gosh, am I gonna be able to pay for it or I can't do this. I can't do that Now. I'm absolutely gonna make more money than that, but I wanted to just share. Start thinking about monetizing your content that way. Not I have to do this to make $100,000 right away, cause that's stressful, that's very stressful. But think about it as how can I make just a few hundred dollars a month that can help me cover my expenses so that I can create stress free? And I'm not worried about creating and making more money and making more money and making more money all the time. But that's all I have for you today. So, as always, remember, keep it fresh, keep it fun and just keep going.
